The Hop Ice Cream Shop on Merrimon Avenue has a Mom's Morning Out. CHILDREN welcome!!!! We hear that they have a little play area for them. You can enjoy a latte while chatting with other moms. Tuesdays, that's TODAY, from 9am to 11am. You can get more information by calling them at 828-252-8362.
AND ALSO AT THE HOP on Tuesdays, Coffee Break with Asheville Mommies. We had actually planned on attending this last week but with the gas shortage we were unable to go. Gas Shortage causing closings.
A valuable tip from a reader:
Whatever your plans are- don't try to go to your local library like we did yesterday. They are closed due to the gas shortage.
Call before you leave your house to make sure things are going to be open today and tomorrow.

The high is supposed to be 76 today in Asheville. Take advantage of this beautiful fall weather and get the kids outside. Don't forget a blanket, snacks, water and your camera.
KFA visits Jones Park from time to time. It is on the North side of town and easy to find. The kids can play for hours and hours. We stopped by there the other day to snap a picture so I could share it with you. I heard one of the children say, "We are going to be on TV." I hate to disappoint you but you are just going to be on KFA this time.

Kid Friendly Asheville Weekend Ideas
Happy Friday!!! Kid Friendly Asheville hopes you have a fun filled family weekend! Here are a few things going in in Asheville this weekend.

This year it will be at a temporary location, Martin Luther King Park--4 blocks East of City/County plaza
KFA has been to the Greek Festival several times and have found it to be great fun! Make sure to save lots of room for Greek Food, PASTRIES and coffee. There will be live music and Greek dancing!
Since the weather is yucky with rain make sure you dress warm and make sure you stay DRY.

Okay, I have exciting news if you still want to catch Get Smart on the big screen. It will continue to be at Asheville Pizza Company this week along with HELLBOY 2. So if you get stir crazy with this weather get the kids out and enjoy a movie with a specialty pizza!!!

Family Fun Day!! Asheville. North Carolina

Family Fun Day
Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts will host the annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 27, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Carrier Park on Amboy Rd. The event is designed especially for persons with disabilities and their families and will feature entertainment, family activities, music, inflatables, games, information center, and food. The event will also be a time to recognize the diversity of our community, to promote community inclusion, and to advocate for persons of all ages and abilities. Admission is free and open to the public. To register, call 828-274-0444. Family Fun Day is sponsored by Asheville Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department, Family Support Network of WNC, Western Alliance Center for Independent Living, Western Highlands, Universal MH/DD/SAS, and FIRST. Kid Friendly Asheville went to see the Backyardigans!
Kid Friendly Asheville went to see the Backyardigans this afternoon. I hope that you were able to see this entertaining show! It was posted that no cameras or videotaping was allowed. So we took pictures until we were told to stop.
We had to weed out the blurry ones and the ones that had audience faces in them. This is all we have to share.
If you were at one of the shows and would like to send us pictures or comment with how much fun your child had, PLEASE DO!!!
Now KFA has a Backyardians Magic Wand in the office. I keep wanting to say, "Be careful or you'll poke your eye out!"

There is so much KFA wants to tell you about our wonderful town! We have to ration it out so to speak or there would be nothing else to talk about. Then what would KFA do to entertain your kids?

~Backyardigans ~ The Mighty Knights. TOMORROW at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. Two shows, 4pm and 7pm. KFA has tickets and will take lots of pictures and blog about what the kids thought! If you attend please send us your pictures and tell us what your kids thought! We'll post them on our FRONT page and then your kids can brag that they are on a website! With your permission of course!

I was really lucky to have a chance to stop by a new KID FRIENDLY COFFEE SHOP last week! I blogged all about it! K3 really enjoyed herself and wants to go play again. It is on my calendar to make another visit.

Asheville Pizza Company on Merrimon Avenue is showing Get Smart a rated PG-13 movie. Pretty KID FRIENDLY for kids 13 and over. I love going to APC with my older kids and allowing their friends to tag along. Gives them a chance to hang out with parental supervision.

Today KFA hit the road to check out a KID FRIENDLY coffee shop. Yes, you heard me correctly. Coffee shop and KID FRIENDLY. We were invited to check them out a week ago and I had to take them up on it! Thank you, Tonya. Tonya is the owner of Growing Young Cafe.
So, I gathered up K3 and K4 and went to enjoy a cup of coffee and the atmosphere that I had read about on their website. (I had to take kids with me so I could make sure it was indeed kid friendly.) I was not disappointed! This place was AWESOME!!!! Such a bright open place for children to play and learn while moms and dads are able to have adult conversation and enjoy coffee.
Growing Young Cafe is very kid friendly. Toys. Books. Healthy snacks. Lots of areas for play. It's nice to have your children in a learning environment and not worry about them running off. You can get comfy on the couch while your bundle of joy plays in the pretend kitchen for example. That is how it was for me. I had a nice conversation with Tonya about her wonderful place while K3 made toast in the pretend kitchen.

Mountain State Fair Pictures
KFA received a wonderful email today with three awesome pictures to share with you!

Kid Friendly Asheville headed up to Craggy Gardens and Craggy Pinnacle
Around Labor Day is the time to pack a lunch and head up to Craggy Gardens to pick blueberries. Sadly this year some of the parkway is closed due to a land slide. You can still park at the Craggy Gardens picnic area and walk though.
Yesterday some of the KFA crew headed up to Craggy Gardens and Craggy Pinnacle. On the hunt for blueberries. We headed up a bit later than we usually do but time got away with us this year.
It has been a tradition for my family for several years. After all their hard work picking those delicious blueberries I make homemade blueberry pancakes for breakfast.
The leaves will be turning in the next few weeks and it would make a nice family outing. Take a couple of camping chairs, blanket, food, water and a good book to read. Don't forget a warm jacket and your camera! Send us a picture to share on our website.

At Asheville Pizza Company Indiana Jones and Space Chimps are playing!! Sounds like something to keep in mind if we get rain this weekend. It's always good to have a backup plan!! A couple of backup plans.

We are planning a MAJOR cobbing day on Saturday, September 13, 2008. Come one come all and cob cob cob. Please bring: yourself and love of getting dirty, water, sunscreen, snacks, jokes, smiles, food and KIDS!!!
We are nearly there. Lets put in a good day of cobbing and show our commitment to FINISHING this project.

Someone in Asheville sent this to me so I could share it with you. Sorry I am posting it a bit late since it is happening tomorrow at 6:30 pm.
Blue Ridge Motion Pictures invites parents with their children 4-10 years of age to be a part of a test audience for a pilot script of the children’s TV show.
Audiences members will get enjoy watching a run through of the script live on the set with the actors and puppets here at our studio on **Friday, September 5, 6:30PM.**

About Michelle, Founder of Kid Friendly Asheville
Hello. My name isn't really Supermom, it's Michelle. I don't even think I would answer to Supermom. I do answer to Mommy, Mom and the sound of crying. That includes when someone is crying Mommy.
I started blogging online for 7 years now. Before that it was the old fashioned way. Paper and pen. I try to be humorous. I try to be cool. My grammar sucks. I tell it like it is! I try not to cuss but sometimes a dammit or shit will sneak out into text. Forgive me. I learned how to slash through my words so they wouldn't stick out so much.
I founded The Adventures of Supermom.com to write about having four kids and how busy life can get. I often refer to myself as June Cleaver with leopard print heels and pearls.
Before telling everyone my business on an online blog I managed a drug store. Nothing glamorous I assure you. I gladly traded that job in for my current one.

I write about the day to day life of a family of six. I also refer to my children in code. My 17 year old daughter is known as H or hormonal teen. My 13 year old son is known as B2. My 6 year old goes by Lil O. Then the 3 year old goes by Baby M. I call my husband Superdad.
I talk about having a hormonal teenage daughter who likes to wear pants that take her five minutes to get into. My son even gets blogged about. Once he wiped a booger on the wall and it was brought up during my LIVE TV interview. I blog about the trials of potty training, taking the beloved pacifier away and how exciting temper tantrums can be. I have a passion for the family bed, breastfeeding and wearing your baby. I tell you all about it when I share my love for Baby M.
I believe in eating organic. I blog about making my menu and homemade cooking. Sharing tips on how to save money while buying organic.
My family enjoys hitting the tailgate market to buy local fruit and produce. We are also a “compacting” family. Recycle, reuse and renew. I think teaching your kids these values will make the world a better place.
