Gas Shortage causing closings.
Whatever your plans are- don't try to go to your local library like we did yesterday. They are closed due to the gas shortage.
Call before you leave your house to make sure things are going to be open today and tomorrow.
Thanks for the reminder!!
Do you have kid friendly plans today?
With gas hard to find in the area we here at Kid Friendly Asheville encourage you to explore your own neighborhood. Do you have a kid friendly park close by? Want to tell us about it? Email us at AshevilleKids (at) aol (dot) com and tell us all about it and include a picture if you' d like.
The high is supposed to be 76 today in Asheville. Take advantage of this beautiful fall weather and get the kids outside. Don't forget a blanket, snacks, water and your camera.
KFA visits Jones Park from time to time. It is on the North side of town and easy to find. The kids can play for hours and hours. We stopped by there the other day to snap a picture so I could share it with you. I heard one of the children say, "We are going to be on TV." I hate to disappoint you but you are just going to be on KFA this time.

Jones Park is located off Merrimon Avenue. 544 Kimberly Avenue Asheville, NC 2004
~Barnes & Noble Bookstore on Tunnel Road has the Magic Tree House Book Club today at 4pm. Might be lots of fun if your kids are a fan of the series.

Kid Friendly Asheville - The Health Adventure
The Health Adventure.
It is located right in downtown Asheville. There is so many FUN things to do their with your KIDS! We love family fun!
This is only going to be a fraction of my original post. There is something FUN going on NOW that we want to share with you before it is gone.
The Health Adventure has a great Exhibit called "Toys: The Inside Story".
It runs until September 28, 2008. Here is what their website says about the exhibit:
If your parents never let you break open your Etch A Sketch® to find out how it works, or if you've been wondering how to stop your toddler's push toy from making such an infernal racket, you'll love Toys: The Inside Story. This exhibition illustrates the simple mechanisms commonly found in toys and lets visitors create their own toy-like combination's of gears, pulleys, linkages, cams, and circuits. Many of the exhibits are free-form and open-ended.
If you are able to see the Toys exhibit please send us a few pictures and tell us about your experience! AshevilleKids (at) aol (dot) com.
**More to come about The Health Adventure!!!!**

Voting For 2008 BlogAsheville Awards is Open!
You've seen the nominees. You've emailed me to ask when the hell I'd get the voting up. Now it's time to cast your ballot for the superlative bloggers of BlogAsheville in our annual awards.
Ty Hallock over at Top Floor Studios has put together a nifty voting mechanism for us. All you do is click the link, cast your votes, enter your email address, and wa-la. Get it right the first time, because there's no going back. You may want to review the nominees before you click over.
To ensure the integrity of the voting, I'll be able to see IP addresses and emails for each voter. I won't share any of this information with anyone - unless someone is redonkulous enough to try to stuff the ballot box. Then I'll trumpet it from the damn mountaintops.
Please cross-post the voting link on all of your blogs.
Good luck everyone, and get to voting!

Kid Friendly Asheville Coffee Shop
kid friendly coffee shop
Hours: Monday through Friday
9:00-5:30
Today KFA hit the road to check out a KID FRIENDLY coffee shop. Yes, you heard me correctly. Coffee shop and KID FRIENDLY. We were invited to check them out a week ago and I had to take them up on it! Thank you, Tonya. Tonya is the owner of Growing Young Cafe.
So, I gathered up K3 and K4 and went to enjoy a cup of coffee and the atmosphere that I had read about on their website. (I had to take kids with me so I could make sure it was indeed kid friendly.) I was not disappointed! This place was AWESOME!!!! Such a bright open place for children to play and learn while moms and dads are able to have adult conversation and enjoy coffee.
Growing Young Cafe is very kid friendly. Toys. Books. Healthy snacks. Lots of areas for play. It's nice to have your children in a learning environment and not worry about them running off. You can get comfy on the couch while your bundle of joy plays in the pretend kitchen for example. That is how it was for me. I had a nice conversation with Tonya about her wonderful place while K3 made toast in the pretend kitchen.
Growing Young Cafe offers so many great things.

Mountain State Fair Pictures

We loved all three of these pictures. Thank you for sharing them us! I have one question??? Did you eat a funnel cake and if so was it delicious?
Kid Friendly Asheville headed up to Craggy Gardens and Craggy Pinnacle
Yesterday some of the KFA crew headed up to Craggy Gardens and Craggy Pinnacle. On the hunt for blueberries. We headed up a bit later than we usually do but time got away with us this year.

It has been a tradition for my family for several years. After all their hard work picking those delicious blueberries I make homemade blueberry pancakes for breakfast.
The leaves will be turning in the next few weeks and it would make a nice family outing. Take a couple of camping chairs, blanket, food, water and a good book to read. Don't forget a warm jacket and your camera! Send us a picture to share on our website.

About Michelle, Founder of Kid Friendly Asheville
I started blogging online for 7 years now. Before that it was the old fashioned way. Paper and pen. I try to be humorous. I try to be cool. My grammar sucks. I tell it like it is! I try not to cuss but sometimes a dammit or shit will sneak out into text. Forgive me. I learned how to slash through my words so they wouldn't stick out so much.
I founded The Adventures of Supermom.com to write about having four kids and how busy life can get. I often refer to myself as June Cleaver with leopard print heels and pearls.
Before telling everyone my business on an online blog I managed a drug store. Nothing glamorous I assure you. I gladly traded that job in for my current one.
*CEO ~this is what I call myself. CEO of my family and I will even write that in Job Description when I fill out paper work or get asked my occupation.~
*Professional Blogger
*Housekeeper
*Amateur Chef
*Nurse
*Therapist
*Teacher
*Art Director
*Police Officer ~Did you take the toy from your sister?? Were you just in the kitchen?? Show me your hands??~
*Laundry Attendant
*Maintenance Manager of the house
*Taxi Driver of “Mom’s Jag”
*Janitor
*Computer Geek ~so I can blog about crazy things I think about early in the morning or Google, “strange smells coming from shower drain” for my janitor position.~
About TheAdventuresofSupermom.com
I write about the day to day life of a family of six. I also refer to my children in code. My 17 year old daughter is known as H or hormonal teen. My 13 year old son is known as B2. My 6 year old goes by Lil O. Then the 3 year old goes by Baby M. I call my husband Superdad.
I talk about having a hormonal teenage daughter who likes to wear pants that take her five minutes to get into. My son even gets blogged about. Once he wiped a booger on the wall and it was brought up during my LIVE TV interview. I blog about the trials of potty training, taking the beloved pacifier away and how exciting temper tantrums can be. I have a passion for the family bed, breastfeeding and wearing your baby. I tell you all about it when I share my love for Baby M.
I believe in eating organic. I blog about making my menu and homemade cooking. Sharing tips on how to save money while buying organic.
My family enjoys hitting the tailgate market to buy local fruit and produce. We are also a “compacting” family. Recycle, reuse and renew. I think teaching your kids these values will make the world a better place.
