Download a coloring sheet (below) and color Curious George. Bring or mail your completed Curious George to The Health Adventure with the child’s name and contact information.
When a child brings a completed Curious George coloring sheet to The Health Adventure he/she will receive one dollar off his/her admission that day.
Limit one discount per child per visit and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or discount.

I wanted to let you know of an amazing opportunity to hear a new band called Now You See Them at Growing Young Cafe. They are fun, acoustic, indie-folk that promise to get kids(and adults) dancing. (Take a listen at http://myspace.com/nowyouseethem)
Sunday, January 25th from 2-3:30. Kids are free (and so is play area that day). Adult tickets are $5 and we can only sell 50 (says the fire marshall). So let me know if you'd like me to reserve you one, and send this on to any friends you think may be interested.

Families can stop by the Baker Exhibit Center and check out a Discovery Day Pack. Packs include binoculars, magnifying glasses and other items children can use to explore the Arboretum's trails and gardens.

*Please note that Arboretum property is closed on December 25, and open regular hours on December 24 & 26, and there is no parking fee. Facilities, including the Bonsai Exhibition Garden, are closed December 24, 25, & 26.

Description: Volunteers are needed to wrap gifts in two hour shifts at Barnes and Noble for donations that will go directly to the Literacy Council of Buncombe County. There will be a wrapping table and chairs for each volunteer to work including all paper, tape, ribbon, etc. The Literacy Council will also provide brochures for people to take. All volunteers will be given a small description of the Literacy Council and the mission of the orgainization beforehand. Youth ages 14-17 welcome with adult supervision. Ages 18+ welcome.

A special program to help older children understand, accept, and anticipate the changes that will happen as the family prepares for the birth of the new baby. Each child will:
- See and hold life-like models that show how a baby grows and develops
- Make a kite mobile for the new baby's room
- Receive an activity/coloring book that encourages the older child to explore and express feelings about the new baby
- Tour the Mother/Baby Unit at Mission Hospital to see where mom and baby will stay
Children should be accompanied by an adult.

ASHEVILLE, NC — The Asheville Art Museum, celebrating its 60th anniversary, invites you to take a break over the holidays and sign your art enthusiasts in grades 1 – 4 up for one or all three days of fun during the Holiday Arts Extravaganza Camp on December 29, 30 and 31, 2008 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. each day.
Students will spend their afternoons exploring and creating art of all kinds. Admission to the Museum and all supplies are included with cost.
Cost per day is $15 for Members and $18 for non-Members. Join the Museum today and receive 10% off a family Membership. Just add $64 to your Holiday Arts Extravaganza registration and receive the Members’ discount for this and all other Museum programs for a year!

Centrally located in downtown Asheville on Pack Square, the Museum is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Museum is open every Friday until 8:00 p.m. Special docent-guided tour packages are available for groups and students.

Description: Animal Compassion Network needs 3 volunteers for each shift at PetSmart to take picture of people w/ their pets. A portion of the "Santa Paws" event proceeds will be donated to Animal Compassion Network's adoption programs. This event will take place on 3 weekends in December before Christmas. Volunteer shifts can be divided (11:00am-1:30pm/1:30-4:00pm). There will be costumes available for the volunteers provided by PetSmart. Ages 16+ welcome.

Description: Volunteers are needed to wrap gifts in two hour shifts at Barnes and Noble for donations that will go directly to the Literacy Council of Buncombe County. There will be a wrapping table and chairs for each volunteer to work including all paper, tape, ribbon, etc. The Literacy Council will also provide brochures for people to take. All volunteers will be given a small description of the Literacy Council and the mission of the orgainization beforehand. Youth ages 14-17 welcome with adult supervision. Ages 18+ welcome.

Volunteer shifts can be divided (11:00am-1:30pm/1:30-4:00pm). There will be costumes available for the volunteers provided by PetSmart. Ages 16+ welcome.

Agency: Three Streams Family Health Center
Description: Three Streams Family Health Center offers affordable, compassionate medical care to the uninsured of WNC. Three Streams is in need of volunteers to deliver special holiday giftbaskets to its individual and company supporters. Volunteers will pick up the gifts at 1710 Old Haywood Rd. and deliver them around the Asheville-area. Volunteers need a good sense of direction, good walking shoes and a good attitude. Youth ages 16-17 accepted with adult supervision. Ages 18+ welcome.

The Health Adventure ~ Origami Tree 2008
Origami Tree 2008
Come to The Health Adventure and swing into the jungle with Curious George as we celebrate our new traveling exhibit with a holiday tree full of origami elephants, monkeys, and beautiful flowers.
Paper snakes will wrap through the tree between the butterflies. Folded lions will stalk, and parrots will perch. Don't miss this dazzling display of origami!

My Mom's Having a Baby!
Sibling Class & Tour
A special program to help older children understand, accept, and anticipate the changes that will happen as the family prepares for the birth of the new baby. Each child will:
- See and hold life-like models that show how a baby grows and develops
- Make a kite mobile for the new baby's room
- Receive an activity/coloring book that encourages the older child to explore and express feelings about the new baby
- Tour the Mother/Baby Unit at Mission Hospital to see where mom and baby will stay
Children should be accompanied by an adult.
WHEN: Mondays from 4 to 5 PM
WHERE: Mission Hospital (Program meets at Mission Information Desk)
WHO: Children ages 3 to 8 years old (children over the age of 8 may attend the adult tour with their parent/s)
