Encouraging your child to mingle at the Asheville Arts Center.
Lil O was given a wonderful invitation to be a part of The Jungle Book at the Asheville Arts Center in exchange that I review it on Supermom Reviews. I've even been telling others about it on Kid Friendly Asheville.
I am really thrilled with how it's helping Lil O get out of her comfort zone and meet others. At first she was very shy and didn't want to go. She thought I was making her go to school. She teared up on the first day but I was thankful a teacher saw this and pulled her into the group. She needed someone to do that for her since I was unable to.
After her first class she was all smiles! I knew she would enjoy it once she surrounded herself in it. Parents aren't able to be in the room with them during rehearsal so the children can focus and learn. I totally get that! I take things with me to catch up on while I am waiting in the minivan.
Lil O missed two classes when she was sick with the flu. I had to start over in a sense because she didn't want to go back. She teared up when I made her go but was fine after her first class back! Kids need to be away from us to learn and have their own adventures. We need to encourage our children and give them that extra push. Even if you are pushing her in the room as you tell her you love her and quickly exit the building before she can cling to your leg while screaming. I promise you that you aren't causing her scars that will require therapy!
I needed this push as well. I told Michael this after her first class. I need to be away from Lil O to let her be herself. Let her know she will be fine if I am not in the same room with her. I am always there to get her after class, unless H is there, and I run to her asking about class. She was all smiles yesterday! Her arms tightly around my neck as we walked to the van. She loved class and so proud to tell me that they gave out parts and she was a snake! How exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is counting down the days until next practice. I am sure I will have to walk her to class and reassure her that I will be there when she gets finished. I know she will be all smiles when class is over asking, "How many days until I come here again?"

What Children of Divorce Experience During the Holidays
Remember it's about our kids and not about us. No matter what your EGO may think.
What Children of Divorce Experience During the Holidays
Children of separated families may find the holiday season to be more difficult than usual.
- Children may feel anxious from the excess chaos
- They may feel caught in the middle as parents negotiate who spends what time where
- They may feel resentful at having to leave friends and family to stay with a non-custodial parent
- Children may feel overwhelmed and exhausted as they are shuffled back and forth between houses
- They may feel as though they wish they could "split themselves in half" so that each parent will be satisfied
- They may feel sad as they reminisce on holidays when the family was still together
- Kids may miss one parent while spending time with the other
- They may feel guilty at leaving the other parent alone on a holiday
There are many things that both parents can do to enjoy the holidays and ease the transition for their children.
- Teach the child to embrace his expanded family and the fact that he gets to celebrate the holidays twice
- Do not over-indulge the child with too many presents or candy; this is not healthy for anyone
- One parent should not compete with the other over who gets the child a "better gift" – if possible, strategize with the other parent to ensure even gift-giving
- Have a set schedule, preferably one that is set by family court. Typically, parents should alternate holidays each year. This takes the burden off the child having to decide where he would like to spend his time and also minimize arguing between parents
- Let the child in on the schedule in advance so that they know what to expect
- Put differences aside – do not argue with an ex-spouse in front of the child
- Teach the child what the holiday is truly about so that they can better appreciate the experience
- Plan fun outings and make new traditions such as caroling, ice skating, or catching a new movie in between the holidays to minimize the importance of a single big celebration
- Keep time together simple so that the child does not feel overburdened and overwhelmed
- Set a positive example so that the child is able to enjoy himself; parents should express their own frustrations to another adult, not to their child
- Recognize that most children want and need contact with both of their parents, especially during the holidays
- Allow the child to have phone or email contact with the other parent, especially on the holiday itself
- Allow the child to vent any frustrations
- Love and celebrate the child during these special times

Plan a game night at your house.
You don't always have to leave your house for Kid Friendly Family Fun.
How about starting a tradition with your children or grandchildren?? Plan a game night. Children as young as three even enjoy this family fun.
If you plan on inviting more family and friends to your family fun here are a few ideas to make your night a big success.
Set up a Kid Friendly table. At our house the Dora table works perfectly. Just the right size for small children to use for their games. Younger children can play Memory, Dominoes (with pictures), Sorry, Candyland and many more. They don't have to really follow the rules. Let them make the rules up themselves. Just let the younger kids enjoy the fun!
You can let the older kids play with the adults. They like being included in the grown up fun.
Adult (kid friendly) games to think about playing: Monopoly, Trivia Pursuit, Upwords, Scrabble, Dominoes, Clue, Scatagories, Cranium and many more. It's a good idea to pair a child with an adult and play in pairs. That way the child doesn't get overwhelmed and think they cannot play the game as good as the adults.
No matter the game, your family will enjoy it. Be prepared to laugh and make lots of great memories for your family and friends.

THE HEALTH ADVENTURE HONORS SERVICE TO AMERICA
The Health Adventure will show appreciation to members of the Armed Services by offering free admission to military families on Wednesday, November 11. The museum will also host a Wonder of Physics show at 11:00 that morning, presented by the University of Wisconsin.
United States veterans, active duty military personnel, guard and reservists, and their immediate families will receive free admission as part of a special promotion presented by 99.9 Kiss Country. The station’s morning show hosts, Eddie Foxx and Sharon Green, will be on hand at the museum to greet guests.
“We are grateful to the servicemen and women of our country,” said Paige Dickens, President and CEO. “Our hope is that those military families in our area can come to the museum to enjoy a day of fun and learning together.”
Also on November 11, The Health Adventure will host the Wonders of Physics show. Created and presented by the University of Wisconsin Department of Physics, the program helps people better understand the physics in the world around them by presenting it in a fun, engaging way. Demonstrations cover the six main areas of classical physics—Motion, Heat, Sound, Electricity, Magnetism, and Light—and encourage audience participation. Wonders of Physics is made possible by grants from the Office of Fusion Energy Sciences of the United States Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. The show begins at 11:00 a.m. and is free with museum admission.

Asheville Arts Center ~ Jungle Book
Lil O was shy and nervous and didn't want to join in on the fun. It was great how they saw that and came to get her. I knew she would love it once getting over the OMG my mother just left me ALONE phase.
I was right. After the hour was up, I went in the room and she was smiling.
She cannot wait until Wednesday to practice again. She is counting down the days!
Sorry no pics, I will try to get some on Wednesday.
