Cooking with Lil O.

I think it's very important to get kids in the kitchen.  I always encourage mine to help in some way!

This afternoon Lil O wanted to cook dinner.  With a little help from me she made a perfect dish.

On the Menu:

Tex-Mex Lasagna

Only the best ingredients:

I cooked the hamburger meat and then added the tomatoes, taco mix and french fried onions.  Lil O stirred up the cheese mixture and eggs.

Then I helped Lil O layer for the lasagna.

A friendly tip.  When making a casserole/lasagna dish instead of using your big dish break it into two dishes.  That way you can throw one in the freezer for another time!

When done cooking we added more cheese and french friend onions.  This picture doesn't do it justice.

This dish is a favorite of the kids so I cannot wait to dig into it after it cools.

I'm taking part in Cupcakes for Cures at the Grove Park Inn.

I was invited weeks ago to join in on the cupcake fun at the Grove Park Inn.

Cupcakes for Cures is about finding the best cupcakes and supporting the American Cancer Society's efforts to find cures for cancer.
Yesterday I finally filled out the paperwork and paid my donation to be in the fabulous competition.  I won't be telling you about the cupcakes I will be entering until after it's over!

Breast cancer is very heavy on my heart.  My mamaw was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was pregnant with B2, over 12 years ago.  I am so thankful that after having her breast removed she has lived a healthy life.  In fact she will be 80 in June.

Please if you are able donate anything to the American Cancer Society

Be sure to check back April 10, 2010 to see pictures and hear all about my cupcakes!

Earth Fare Launched Itty Bitty Bites last night and I was there!

Yesterday I ventured to Earth Fare after collecting my teenage daughter from school.  We had been invited to try out their ITTY BITTY BITES!!! I love Earth Fare and that's where I buy most of my groceries!  We eat at their bar a couple of times a month as well.  Not including the sushi we get there!!

So last night was the first ever Itty Bitty Bite Family Night!!!  There was face painting and music.  It was really nice.  All three girls loved it.  My son missed it because he had Scouts.

Here's a few random pictures I took with my Blackberry.  I cannot believe I forgot my camera!

Baby M's meal was 1/2 a grill cheese, carrot sticks with ranch, cheddar bunnies and juice.

I bought myself a YUMMY dinner!!!!  On Family Night a parent can spend $5.00 and two kids get to eat free.  Yippee, I didn't have to cook dinner.

Lil O was painted like a pretty butterfly.  H loved her chicken salad roll-up, fruit kabob, fruit roll and water!!!  Lil O enjoyed her 1/2 grill cheese, cheese stick, oatmeal cookies and juice.  It was all packaged in an adorable lunch bag.

I think I will make this my Thursday tradition because I can do my grocery shopping at the same time!!!  BONUS!!!!!

Thank you Earth Fare for inviting us to join you last night.  Itty Bitty Bites is a fabulous idea!  I hope that more people in the community take advantage of this awesome treat!!!

Be sure to mark Thursday as FAMILY NIGHT at Earth Fare.  Both Asheville locations are participating in this!

Boy Scouts are awesome!

My son loves Boy Scouts!!!!! LOVES!!! They are selling these awesome cards that help them go to camp this summer!!!!!!!

Here's a little more about the 2010 Camp Card:

2010 Camp Card Program

A Scout is Thrifty, a scout works to pay his own way. Finding ways to finance a Scouts adventures is always a challenge, but one that is critical to quality programs and experiences for all scouts and units. While many units have fundraisers to support the unit, it is also important to provide opportunities for scouts to earn their way to summer camp, day camp or the monthly scout outings.

In early 2010 Daniel Boone Council Scouts will have that opportunity through the sale of a Camp Discount Card. This card will retail for $5 each and the scout selling the card will earn $2.50 in profit to be set aside within their Pack, Troop or Crew specifically to help pay for their camping fees. The card will be made available in late January and will be sold from February 1, through March 31. The card will include discount coupons from great businesses such as K-Mart, Fun Depot, Diamond Brand, The Asheville Tourists and Mast General Store. Other vendors will also be on the card when it is released.

The card is offered at a very affordable price and purchasers will make their donation back if they use the card even once for a purchase. Units that wish to participate in the Camp Card Program should register online. The cards will be delivered in late January and will be signed out to the unit. Cards that are not sold must be returned to the council office no later than April 5th, or the unit will be charged for the card. Units will be charged $2.50 per card.

Just comment below if you'd like to purchase this amazing card for $5.00!!

Plan a game night at your house.

Kid Friendly Asheville believes in quality family fun!

You don't always have to leave your house for Kid Friendly Family Fun.

How about starting a tradition with your children or grandchildren?? Plan a game night. Children as young as three even enjoy this family fun.

If you plan on inviting more family and friends to your family fun here are a few ideas to make your night a big success.

Set up a Kid Friendly table. At our house the Dora table works perfectly. Just the right size for small children to use for their games. Younger children can play Memory, Dominoes (with pictures), Sorry, Candyland and many more. They don't have to really follow the rules. Let them make the rules up themselves. Just let the younger kids enjoy the fun!

You can let the older kids play with the adults. They like being included in the grown up fun.

Adult (kid friendly) games to think about playing: Monopoly, Trivia Pursuit, Upwords, Scrabble, Dominoes, Clue, Scatagories, Cranium and many more. It's a good idea to pair a child with an adult and play in pairs. That way the child doesn't get overwhelmed and think they cannot play the game as good as the adults.

No matter the game, your family will enjoy it. Be prepared to laugh and make lots of great memories for your family and friends.

****If you have a family tradition to share with us just send us an email
AshevilleKids(at)aol(dot) com****

We'd love to hear about it and post it on KFA!
